Connecting to Intuition & Inner Wisdom

How do you know when something matters to you?

Sometimes we arrive at understanding through careful thought, research, conversation, or years of experience. Other times, we recognize something before we can fully explain it. A sudden insight. A familiar feeling. An unexpected connection. A sense of curiosity that keeps drawing us toward something.

We have many ways of knowing, and they don’t always agree.

Our bodies carry information about our experiences. Our emotions draw attention to what matters. Our memories, values, relationships, and imagination influence how we interpret the world. Intuition can offer another perspective, while reflection and discernment help us make sense of what we’re noticing.

Ways of Knowing is a two-hour experiential workshop exploring how we listen to, understand, and develop trust in our own wisdom.

Through yoga and somatic practices, meditation, yoga philosophy, reflection, and creative exploration, we’ll become curious about the different ways we know what we know and how that understanding can illuminate what matters most.

How The Night Unfolds

An Evening of Intuition, Insight & Discovery

Think about a time when you just knew something.

Perhaps you recognized an opportunity, sensed that a decision needed more thought, or followed a curiosity whose significance became clear much later. And perhaps you’ve wondered whether something was intuition, fear, habit, or wishful thinking.

Ways of Knowing is an evening for exploring these experiences with curiosity, reflection, and a little imagination.

We’ll begin with gentle movement, breath, and meditation before exploring different ways of knowing—through intuition, embodied awareness, emotion, experience, reason, and reflection.

Drawing from yoga philosophy, we’ll explore Vijñānamaya Kosha, the dimension of wisdom and discernment, and svādhyāya, the practice of self-study.

Through somatic and creative practices, we’ll investigate how our bodies participate in knowing and how we distinguish familiar reactions from emerging insights.

We’ll work with symbols, imagery, oracle cards, writing, and imagination, discovering unexpected connections and perspectives.

Along the way, we’ll trace the threads of meaning woven through our experiences, values, interests, and the possibilities that capture our attention.

We’ll bring these discoveries together through personal reflection, closing with meditation and rest and space for insights that may continue unfolding long after the evening ends.

What Guides Ways of Knowing

Ways of Knowing draws from yoga philosophy and contemporary perspectives on embodied awareness, intuition, and self-understanding.

These articles offer a little background before we meet:

The Koshas: A Different Way of Understanding Yourself

A yogic perspective on the dimensions of our experience, including body, breath and energy, mind, wisdom, and something deeper.

The Eight Limbs of Yoga: More Than a Physical Practice

Explore yoga as a way of life, including practices of self-study, attention, and awareness.

Saṃskāras: The Impressions That Influence How We Experience the World

How our experiences leave impressions that can influence our perceptions, reactions, and choices.

This is optional reading—we’ll explore together during the workshop.

Follow Your Intuition

What keeps capturing your attention?

Sometimes meaning becomes clearer when we begin noticing the connections between  seemingly separate pieces of our lives.

What might your experiences, values, curiosity, and intuition be telling you about what brings meaning to your life?

Consider what you’d like to pay closer attention to, and what might become possible as your understanding deepens.

What Inspired Ways of Knowing

I’ve long been fascinated by the different ways we come to understand ourselves and the world around us.

Some of that understanding comes through study, research, and experience. Some emerges through relationships, creativity, movement, and reflection. And from insights arrive and with no words to explain it yet.

Yoga philosophy offers another perspective on this process, particularly through its exploration of awareness, self-study, and discernment.

Ways of Knowing grew from an interest in bringing these perspectives into conversation to explore the wisdom that can emerge when we learn to listen more fully.
